What appeared to be an accidental clothesline by Benoit on the referee led to
the nWo picking up a DQ victory. No scores were settled here tonight.
Card rating: ***
Match observations:
The nWo comes away with another main event victory, this time thanks to an
unfortunate DQ decision, which saw Goldberg and Randy Orton defeat Chris
Benoit and Triple H. Whether Benoit's clothesline was intentional or not,
the fact is that the referee thought it was and therefore called for the bell.
On the plus side, this should help to fuel Benoit's anger, as he strives to
take the WWE title from Goldberg at Survivor Series.
On the subject of Survivor Series, the brutal attack on Goldust here tonight,
which we later discovered Scott Hall was responsible for, has caused the Golden
one to miss out on Survivor Series. As of yet, Shawn Michaels, Booker T and
the New Rockers have not announced a replacement partner for the 5 on 5 match
at the event, but we expect to hear from them by this Thursday on Smackdown.
It's unknown whether Shane McMahon will be around for Smackdown, but we do know
now that he will take on Hollywood Hogan at Survivor Series, in a Texas Death
Match. That should be a brutal contest, with rather a lot at stake for the
winner.
Also announced for Survivor Series is a 5-Man elimination match for the WWE
Cruiserweight Title. Tajiri will be defending the gold against former champs
Rey Mysterio, Shannon Moore, the Hurricane and Brian Kendrick. It should be
an excellent match, if tonight's tag team match is anything to go by.
