It wasn't quite the match of the night, but impressive no doubt. The Rock
finally becomes the WWE Champion!
Card rating: *** 1/2
Match observations:
Seven matches with four star or greater ratings. This was without a doubt,
the greatest pay per view of the year so far. After a gruelling Elimination
Chamber match, The Rock emerged victorious as the brand new WWE Champion, with
Stone Cold coming incredibly close to the gold.
Shocks and surprises were promised, and they too were there in abundance. Who
would have thought that Chris Benoit could have defeated Goldberg so easily,
and also did you ever think you would see Bret Hart back in WWE so soon after
he left. The likely answer on both those counts is no, yet you cannot deny
that you've seen them now!
The match of the night was the tag team title match. With a cage rematch set
for tomorrow night on Raw, we may be in for an even greater match. Maybe even
a long overdue 5-star offering!
Rey Mysterio finally won the Cruiserweight Championship here tonight, although
don't expect Brian Kendrick to take his loss of gold lying down. He'll want a
chance to get his belt back, and no doubt Tajiri will also be looking to get
himself another chance against Rey Rey.
We all saw Marty Jannetty walk out after he counted Al Snow's shoulders down
to mat for a three count. But was he walking out on the New Rockers, or did
he just not want anything to do with X-Pac's victory celebration. We may find
out on Raw tomorrow night.
No Mercy will have to go a long way to top Unforgiven though!
